Class Descriptions
Ballet – Classical dance with classical music, ballet is excellent for posture and coordination. Cecchetti is the main style taught but Vaganova, Russian, and French are also used for variation and as a learning comparison.
Jazz – A contemporary style focusing on isolations and transitions through opposition movement. Lyrical or energetic, you will get a mixture of jazz styles including Urban, Contemporary, West Coast, Classic and almost every style of music!
Modern - A contemporary style of dance which uses the entire body to explore ways to express abstract ideas. NSDT's modern classes incorporate many different techniques (including Cunningham, Horton, and Graham), but focus on releasing and relaxing the body to learn to move efficiently.
Tap - A rhythmic form of dance using shoes with attached metal taps. A fun and challenging form of dance for all ages!
Hip-Hop – Focuses on isolations and rhythms, this class will have you movin’ and shakin’!
Pilates – A core strengthening class with an emphasis on strengthening muscles and improving posture.
Stretch – Lengthen muscles and gain mobility and flexibility with stretches for all levels.
Zumba – A high energy class set to Latin music designed to give you a workout using the movement of Cha-Cha, Rumba, and Merengue.
WERQ – If you like Zumba, you’ll love WERQ! WERQ is the fiercely fun dance fitness class based on pop, rock, and hip-hop music. The WERQ warm up previews the dance steps used in class and the cool down includes balance and yoga inspired poses. Taught by certified fitness professionals. Are you ready to WERQ? www.werq.com
Social Partner Dancing – Who doesn’t want to go out dancing the night away with someone special? We will change styles every month to learn new dances like Rumba, Cha-Cha, Swing, and Salsa. Must have partner.
Performance Workshop – A chance to spend an entire session learning a piece of choreography, just like the pros! Our performance workshop class rotates styles and has included ballet, contemporary, and jazz. Participants need to take one technique class per week. There are opportunities to perform choreography learned in this class.
